Locals’ Choice: Bread Pudding

Today, I’m bringing sexy back.

Ok, not really, but I am bringing The Locals’ Choice back! You guys gave me some great feedback on where your favorite gumbo is served. With this arctic chill that’s been keeping the New Orleans area hostage, I have had bread pudding on the brain.

I’ve only indulged in one local eatery’s bread pudding so far this year (which I will report on in the comments), but if my calculations are correct, I will be requiring more of this Louisiana favorite to keep my tummy warm. Please comment with your favorite spot for bread pudding, or if you have a recipe, share with the class!

    Just found your FB and blog. My husband and I were married in NOLA twenty eight years ago and my favorite wedding gift was a New Orleans restaurant cookbook.

    I have adapted the Bread Pudding recipe over the years to include what I call "Bread Pudding With Most Expensive Tequila Sauce", (it was at the time). I sometimes pan fry the bread pudding to develop the buttery texture - creating a perfect compliment to the silken texture of the tequila sauce!

    I am not a fan of bread pudding at all, but a good friend of mine ordered some at Cafe Degas, and she made me take a taste-and it was very good. Had some sort of melty white chocolate on it to boot!

  • My vote also goes to Ignatius. They are the bread pudding masters.

    I'm not a local, and I'm not even a huge bread pudding fan, so I don't know if my "vote" should really count. But, the one at Commander's Palace was really delicious with the tasty whiskey sauce.

    The Gumbo Shop... I've never had a bread pudding with pineapple in it anywhere else before. Delicious!

    I am a philistine & do not appreciate bread pudding, not even my mothers. BUT the krispy kreme bread pudding at Boucherie is fantastic. It makes even a non-bread-pudding lover find her heart.
  • Speaking of Mother's (not yours, but "the" Mother's), this is where I had bread pudding only a couple of weeks ago. I will save my comments about the rest of the dining experience for a rant on another day, but the bread pudding was very good. Both my husband and daughter are not fans, but they kept stealing bites. Eventually, I had to relinquish the dish to my little girl. She can use the calories more than me, anyway.
  • I haven't tried too many bread puddings in town, but so far my favorite is at Ignatius on Magazine Street.
